Writing for the Soul

By Benjamin Grossman and Cassa Bassa

I savour your words on my tongue daily
Reading aloud your thoughts and feelings
As if sampling a handcrafted recipe

Words, by their prowess, bring life or death
From yours, I only taste an antidote
Each sentence a mouthful of succulent nourishment
Leafy greens of personification and aromatic spices of diction
Lines of sugar poured over smoldering pages
The flavor of an elite story

Always I crave your expression
Every fibre yearning for your art
Never stop writing
Your every scribble satiates my soul

I love that this was a collaboration… really great. I always wonder about the collab origin stories… e.g. for me I did one once or twice, and it was all via comment conversations. Would love to hear the story in a nutshell, or tips, if you’re willing… or would love to read a post about it. :)) I bet so many people could benefit… I remember that I used to long for collabs and had no idea how to make them happen, usually being kinda shy about asking people for things. :)) Either way, thanks for sharing this wonderful poem.

I think it was very organic thing, and we mostly work in google docs cause easy to change things on the fly. But this is about the fourth time working together or so. Yes, I have done many duets before and some work and some do not. Yes, I think you definitely have to ask, and be ready for a “no”. Not everyone is willing to do them or feels comfortable doing them, because writing is more a solitary thing at times. Collaboration are like brief marriages of words; and there can be up and downs if you don’t flow together. But also can be very rewarding. Don’t be afraid to seek them out, because you can learn a lot from other writers in this way. Thanks for sharing your thoughts πŸ™‚ Enjoy the rest of your week!

  6. What a way to write… Wonderful work!
