So maybe I won’t be your
good morning or good night
Maybe I won’t be able to
bake you that birthday cake from scratch
or massage your favorite oil
into your hair or even paint your toenails
your favorite shade of sea green.
And maybe we won’t be able to cry together
or hold each other’s hands delicately, tenderly, tightly
when it really mattersโwhen it really counts
Because maybe love doesn’t conquer everything
and that’s the real lesson, the real truth
hidden beneath our utopian relationship
But you know what?
I still believe our love has no half-life.
Beautiful. I guess thats okay.
Thanks! I’m okay with beautiful! Thanks for leaving some words!
I meant okay for the ‘Maybes’ you wrote in your poem.
๐
Oh, I see. I understand ๐
There is a sweetness (and sadness) in the reality here. Lovely write Ben.
Thanks. You’re right about what you said. I feel those both between the lines. But in the end there is hope!
It wouldn’t be from you if there wasn’t hope ๐ That last line gives the whole piece the most beautiful lift ๐๐๐๐
Maybe so ๐ Thanks again!
This is beautiful and makes me wanna cry…thanks for writing…
Thanks for that! I’m crying alongside of you.
A big hug for you Benjamin!
This poem is powerful Benjamin, it does have a lot of pain beneath and also a lot of hope and love. Well written!
Thanks. Got to hold on to hope. All you can do sometimes! And most times it’s more than enough.
Beautiful amalgam of pain, love and hope Benjamin!
Thanks!
Your writing is always amazing, and this poem really shows that off! I love the little details in the first stanza. It describes heartbreak perfectly.
The last line is beautiful, though – there’s always hope. Wishing you all the best!
Thanks. That’s a very touching comment. And I wish you all the best, also! Definitely gonna take a leap of hope.
Thank you! And hope is such an amazing thing ๐
Love doesn’t have to conquer everything. Very rightly said, Benjamin! This is a great poem. I adore it.
No, it doesn’t. But I’m still hoping against hope that one day it will! Thanks again.
Aren’t we all? One day, it just might.
Yes. One day, it might. I hope.
This sounds like such a unique and deep love, and the fluctuating story is so captivating. You’ve definitely got me rooting for you! That last line though… beautiful way of putting the ultimate romantic concept. Wowzers! More please… :))
I can’t refute anything you say. You’ve picked up on something that’s there. “Unique” and “deep” are good words for the greatest romance one can have. Thank you!
Now itโs my turn to agree, and say that I can also strongly relate! Well, hope yours breeds many more poems so lovely, so we can continue to share in the magic.
Beautiful written and so true. ๐
Thanks ๐
Beautifully expressed…
Thanks a lot!
