Universal Song

By Benjamin Grossman & Ace

Push and pull
Empty and full
Ebb and flow
Learn and know

A balance of inwardness
And outwardness
I wish I could explain
The twists and turns of this lane

Dark and light
Day and night
Observing and living
Receiving and giving

There’s a dream to be at peace
There’s a knowing it’s within range
With a smile and a breath of release
This feeling is a message no longer strange

This is beautiful. The ebb and flow to learn and grow is what I’ve been living. thank you for this

    • Thanks so much! Always exciting to create something with Ace. She really makes the waves and I just try to keep up.

      • Marlapaige says:

She’s a muse, and clearly a good one!

      • She’s a friend, which is much better than a muse. Muses kinda can come and go. Friends hopefully stay with you forever. At least, the right ones do!

      • Marlapaige says:

A friend can be a muse as well. Don’t discount a muse just because they are a friend. Muses do not have to be in the form of a romantic partner, they are merely someone or something that causes you to strive to be better, make better, create better. Some of the best muses are the ones that inspire you every day in small ways. My mother was a muse for me, and still is. You can also have more than one at any given period, and you can have one thats stronger than the others at any given moment. Do not discount her as a muse because the generally accepted definition includes romantic entanglements.

      • Sure, she’s a great inspiration. Without the romantic entanglement I would perhaps say inspiration instead of muse, but perhaps it’s just semantics then. I like what you said. It seems to make a lot of sense. I will rethink my muse statement. Always nice to think deeper on anything. Muses are very important topics to art. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

      • Marlapaige says:

Thank you for reading it and thinking about it 🙂
The word itself comes from Greek myth where there were multiple daughters of Zeus that made up the idea of a muse, and all had to do with the arts and sciences. Also, I just looked up the dictionary definition of a muse which does not mention romantic entanglements at all: “a person or personified force who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist.” It is something that has come to imply romantic entanglements, but it actually does not.

      • Welcome. And it’s so interesting how many things come from Greek mythology and times. It makes sense that a muse would totally be someone that is the source inspiration and not necessarily a romantic element, as we could have muses that we don’t even know (such as other artists). And it could also be the Universe or Nature as well. Lots of different ways to think of the muse. It’s a good to note for all the muses out there. I know I draw inspiration from everything and everywhere. I’m a collector of lots of tiny muses perhaps. And then perhaps I have bigger muses out there that inspire on another level at times. Thanks again for all your thoughts.

        Thank you for listening 😊

  5. As I said on Ace’s Blog…..You two are the Poetic Rockstars of WordPress!! Congratulation again to you Ace and Ben, for adding your voices and your wise words to this universal song…and I would say dance:) Two steps forward one step back. Recognizing this is the way Life works, helps us navigate it more smoothly:) We find strength in the harder moments and we can feel joy and appreciation in the light. Your thoughts on this were right on point and brilliantly combined. Alf Mabrook!

    • That’s so cool you brought up dance because it was certainly another idea we were thinking of. I’ll take being a rockstar with Ace; it’s a nice duo we make then. I like how you say this: “Two steps forward one step back. Recognizing this is the way Life works, helps us navigate it more smoothly” Something to take to heart and think on. Recognizing is so important. Hopefully it stops us from making mistakes and having regrets later. There is no need to rush when making up your mind. And best to give your all in life and if it doesn’t work out at least you know you tried your best. Many blessings to you! Enjoy your day!
