I need words
To write words
But I never have words
When I need words
So I wait for words
To find more words
Until I’m at a loss for words
I need words
To write words
But I never have words
When I need words
So I wait for words
To find more words
Until I’m at a loss for words
I should’ve tumbled by now
Dislocated my spine on the way down
Spun into the cycle
Gotten caught on the tracks
Been burned by the fevered breath of a dragon
Taken a bullet to the heart
A sword to the stomach
Overdosed on a heroine
Or at the very least
Drowned in your eyes
I’ve fallen out
The same way
I fell in: this sentence unfinished
Whatever did you do
To make Jill push you
Down that hill?
Don’t say nothing
Only the truth
Will keep your neck unbroken
On your next trip
Down that hill
It’s crumbling
Aging unlike wine
Soon it won’t even exist
Everything tastes yummy
Before it hits my tummy
In every language
I understand cold
Fire, too
The meaning is not
In the sounds
So much as the actions
Arranged words
Shared with the world
Is it in the smoke
Before our vision
When we blow
In the words
On the page
Between the truth and the myth
In the water-worn bottle that
Washes up on the shore
Or just simply
In your eyes?
Two years
Of stabbing myself
With a pen
Is what it took
To bleed ink
Onto the page
Instead of blood
