High (Song Lyrics + Song)

[Verse 1]
I’m not that high
I’m not that cut and dry
But I don’t like grey
That’s all I wanted to say

[Chorus]
I know that everything you are
Is what I need
And everything you are
Is what I dreamed
So every time you say that you love me
I fall a little deeper in love, it’s true
It’s true, I fall a little deeper in love with you

[Verse 2]
You look so high
Your smile could reach the sky
You don’t like grey
That’s all you needed to say

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
We’re going around in circles every day
But it doesn’t have to be this way
If all we want to do is run and play
Then we should, then we should

I keep looking into your eyes and seeing the sky
I keep looking into your eyes and wanting to fly
I keep looking into your eyes and feeling so high
I keep looking into your eyes and, baby, I’m high

[Chorus]

[Bridge 2]
You make me so high
You make me so high
I’ve learned how to fly
I’ve learned how to fly

[Chorus]
I know that everything you are
Is what I need
And everything you are
Is what I dreamed
So every time you say that you love me
I fall a little deeper in love, it’s true

I think I’m gonna stay in love with you

Benjamin! This sounds like a hit to me. When I first read the lyrics, I didn’t get the ‘grey’ but when you sing it, it makes perfect sense.

Wow! Amazing, Ben! So you compose and sing too?! What a dark horse you are 😀

    • Only a little bit here and there. I’m am an amateur; however, that is where all the fun is at, I think. Sometimes when we are too professional in something the fun starts to go away. If you can create and have fun you’re on of the lucky creative ones. A dark horse sounds like a good thing. I’ll take it 🙂 Thanks.

      • Sunra Rainz says:

Ha ha ha! It is a good thing. You keep people guessing, keep them on tenterhooks.

I agree, you have to have fun with it. When it starts to get too polished it starts to lose its soul piece by piece. An you don’t want that! It must feel like that for musicians who have to play a much-loved song over and over. Everyone loves a classic but I sometimes wonder if the musician can’t bear to play it any more 🙂

      • Yeah, exactly. That’s not a good feeling, when the soul is taken from art. Polish something so much its turns into polish instead of art. Yeah, you’re probably right. They start to get tired of the song, and that’s maybe why they have to change up the arrangement to keep it fresh. But at some point too if must feel good to play something that’s so important to the history of the world. There is a push and pull to everything, it seems.

  13. Fantastic, Benjamin! You’re like a celebrity! 🌞

  14. Marlapaige says:

“But I don’t like grey/ That’s all I wanted to say” is the most powerful statement I’ve heard in a long time

    • Thanks. Grey is is kinda cool, but sometimes we just need definiteness. A wishy-washy, day-to-day lifestyle is gonna take your heart down fast. At least, for me, anyway.

      • Marlapaige says:

yes. I myself live in black and white. Life is clear cut and defined well. Sometimes it gets murky, but one every side there is a clear shoreline whether it’s black or white. This recent change in circumstances involved someone who lived in grey, and it was too much because his grey was not as grey as he wanted it to be and kept trying to tell me it was. But my stark contrast saw the truth, that he would eventually need to land. Then, he did need a shore to swim to because he couldn’t tread the murky depths of grey anymore. He went to the closest shore: black. And the dark curtain fell.

      • That’s very poetic in your journalistic approach of telling a story. I can really feel your thoughtfulness in each word. And, that is a tough situation. It happens. We need to be around people that balance us out, and sometimes we can’t jive right will all this back and forth. I’m sure the curtain will rise on something better in the future. It’s cliche to say but it’s also always almost true!

      • Marlapaige says:

I know it’s true. That is the reason I am not in a straight jacket 😂

And for a long time his grey and my starkness did balance each other…. but eventually, it didn’t anymore.

“That’s very poetic in your journalistic approach of telling a story.”

How do you mean? Like the way I write my comments?

      • Yes, the comment was very personal and yet it was very artistic the way you expressed it with colors and images and metaphors. I’m glad you’re not in a straight jacket. You will heal in time, sooner than later, even. Yeah some things are only meant to balance for a time, unfortunately. Almost nothing lasts forever, unless…. Well reminds me of this song by Jon McLaughlin (“Maybe It’s Over”): “If we wanted forever / Baby, we gotta steal it”. Maybe relationships are like this at times.

      • Marlapaige says:

“Yes, the comment was very personal and yet it was very artistic the way you expressed it with colors and images and metaphors.”

Thank you. I wish I could evoke the same kind of wording in my posts LOL

I am healing a little more every day, but every day there’s something new to try to challenge that healing. But I’m eeking by and one day, they will fix the leak in my bathroom that is causing it to be destroyed, this divorce will be behind me, I will finally get around to throwing away some of the old crap that’s hogging my house, I will be able to get a pet, and all will be right in my world again. But until all of these things happen, it’s baby steps and being shoved back just as far almost every day. But no matter how strong the wind, how steep the hill, how heavy the boulder, Sisyphus and I will stubbornly keep trying.

      • Marlapaige says:

        Out conversation actually inspired another:

        “Stay Strong”

You’re really good at getting me to write LOL

      • Cool! Thanks for sharing. Nice work! Inspiration is amazing because it has no set standards! It just shows up when it wants to!

  15. Geo says:

    Beautiful! Amazing creative lyrics.

  16. Very very good. This is a lovely song, beautifully rendered. Well done!
