Once
I was a fool knowingly
bathing in the sunlight
and day after day
staring
into its rays
excited about the heat
it placed upon my skin
forever forgetting
the damage it did to my hands
the damage it did to my eyes
the damage it did to my brain
BUT
by the grace of the stars
I found my way up and heavenward
rediscovered
the beauty of reflection
the-power-of-pull
as well as
the rhythm of time
which heals and endures
Oh yes
once
I was a damned fool
yet now that I’ve regained my senses
I ONLY
GIVE MY
PRAISE TO
THE MOON
LOVED this poem! This is the best thing I’ve read today ♥

Beautiful poem, Ben! And yet fools are also wise men with big open hearts 🌟
Thanks. You’re right. This is true: fools have the biggest hearts. You’re onto something. Like in Shakespeare where the supposed fool is the genius. Have a Happy New Year! Always appreciate your thoughts. Wishing you the best of the best ahead!!
Hey, I was reading your pieces on the Eunoia Review earlier too – you know the ones you’ve linked to your blog – they are soooo good. Just had to tell you. The one that alluded to Prince, the Two-Spirited piece – LOVE it. And the others, the one about leeches and the windows, great writes all. Happy New Year to you too!!! Wishing you great success in everything, Ben. I’ll leave you with a Bukowski quote which has just sprung to mind:
“If you’re going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It’s the only good fight there is.”
Thanks, that was from a time when I was focused on prose poetry and flash fiction. Some of my favorite pieces I ever wrote. Thanks for reading them and telling me. Leech one is maybe my favorite I wrote. Thanks for the quote. You just reminded me how I need to go back to go forward with my creativity. Thanks a lot! Wishing you all the same. Talk more soon. All success to you as well! Good luck with your creative journey in 2025. Your talents are special and uniquely you!
Thank you!!! And you are so welcome 🩷
