Others

I hope they come in reckless swarms
Blow in like the worst storms ever seen
Breaking windows and tearing off doors
Flooding my inbox with inappropriate messages
Even rushing toward me with lusty hands
Wearing mouthwatering lingerie
Or nothing but flirty smiles
And in numbers too large to count
In fact, I hope they come
Nonstop, every day
Just so I can show you how
I’d turn them all away in favor of you

Come Around (Again)

So you don’t have to wonder
I wrote these words while inside of you
And like Atlas my world was above me
Though not held on my shoulders
But rather atop my thighs

Yet unlike the world we now spin on
That land was all moan and flesh
Those mountains were soft and not rough
Those waves were pink and not blue

Do you think Noah could’ve
Overcome this ocean cascading from the sky?
Am I stupid or smart for wishing
Your storm upon me everyday?

So you don’t have to wonder
I would drown every day
Just to see you come

For You

I would have
Like Medea
Cut my brother into pieces and
Scattered his remains

I would have
Like Cronus
Eaten my own
Children

I would have
Like Icarus
Flown toward the sun
With waxed wings

I would have
Like Sisyphus
Pushed the boulder
Up the hill forever

I would have
Like Prometheus
Stolen the gods’
Fire

I would have
Like Ajax
Fallen upon
My own sword

I would have
If only you had
Crossed a puddle
For me.

Done Traveling

I always thought
I needed to see
The Eiffel Tower and
The Great Wall of China and
The pyramids in Egypt and
The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
Or at least the pearly gates of Heaven

But that was before
I uncovered your existence
All Seven Wonders of the World
In one five-foot blessing

And now I’m done
I have no urge to travel
Any measurable distance from you
