You make me wish
The world were flat
And you were sailing
In a boat toward its end

Not Of This Earth
Discovered your shadow
along the wall
in the pale moonlight
It was the shape
of a heart with two wings
So it goes without saying
you’re not of this Earth.
8 Months
I didn’t need 4 seasons
To recognize you’re the scent of sweet
I didn’t need 240 moons
To want you 8 days a week
I didn’t need 1 year
To give you the key to my heart
And I sure as hell
Don’t need you gone
To know what I got
It was obvious you were
Priceless from the start
Loveship (Song Lyrics)
[Verse 1]
We were not next of kin
We weren’t even friends
A relationship seemed
Impossible then
[Pre-Chorus]
But then we found, we found
What we should’ve never found
We couldn’t drown, couldn’t drown
What we should’ve never found
[Chorus]
We made a loveship
And it’s just how it sounds
We’re in a loveship
And we’re never coming down
We’re in a loveship
Sounds hip, kids want this now
We’re in a loveship
And we’re never coming down, no
We’re never coming down, no
We’re never coming down
[Verse 2]
We thought not to trust
We’d be friends and not lust
A relationship seemed
Impossible to us
[Pre-Chorus]
But then we found, we found
What we should’ve never found
We couldn’t drown, couldn’t drown
What we should’ve never found
[Chorus]
We made a loveship
And it’s just how it sounds
We’re in a loveship
And we’re never coming down
We’re in a loveship
Sounds hip, kids want this now
We’re in a loveship
And we’re never coming down
We made a loveship
And it’s just how it sounds
We’re in a loveship
And we’re never coming down
We’re in a loveship
Sounds hip, kids want this now
We’re in a loveship
And we’re never coming down, no
We’re never coming down, no
We’re never coming down
Some Poetry
I don’t know the perfume of your skin
But I bet it’s some poetry
I don’t know the flavor of your lips
But I’m sure it’s sweet and savory
I don’t know the beauty of your walk
But I’m thinking rather divinely
I don’t know the shape of your love
But I’m guessing it’s extraordinary
I do know, however, the rarity of your face
And, my darling, it’s some kind of poetry
Issues
So I have this issue and
there’s no exact medical term for it.
But when I look into your eyes
I’m transported to a place where
it always rains sunshine.
And maybe that doesn’t sound like an issue.
But when I really, really miss you
it feels like some incurable disease
akin to an elephant using my chest as a scale
or a vampire sucking my soul through a straw.
So yeah, I have this issue, I think
where I fall deeper in love
with you every nanosecond.
And maybe you have it, too?
Long-Distance Relationships
I have this puzzle
A map of the world
Which I’ve been putting
Together in private
And amorously slow
Not because I’m unsure of
The location of the pieces
But rather I wanted to rearrange the globe
So our countries aren’t
Disconnected by a sea
It took six seemingly endless months
But it was nothing, really
A few necessary adjustments
Even when it’s make-believe
I always place you next to me
Butterfly Love
Your love was something like a butterfly:
Beautiful one day
Dead the next.
Hooked
You make
all the other
fish in the sea
look like sharks.
Callings
I grew up down the street
From a seminary
A very spacious place
Sprawling buildings
Acres of green
Fences all around and tennis courts
Something almost like a fairy tale
But that’s not really the point
I’m about to go there now
Not to admire the beauty
But to enlist my soul
To another kind of heavenly devotion
This might sound trite
But if I can’t have you
I’d prefer to stay unloved
How could I ever move on
With anyone who doesn’t
Have your name?
Your face?
Your voice?
I swear, only God could compare.
